Kent named Disco Turkeys head coach for 2025
The Disco Turkeys have named Winston-Salem native Josh Kent head coach for 2025.
Kent is currently the assistant coach at Surry Community College in Dobson. He was previously a graduate assistant at Carolina University and was head coach of the Uwharrie Wampus Cats last summer. Kent played his high school ball for the Mount Tabor Spartans.
The 27-year-old Kent played college baseball for three seasons at the NCAA Division II level before finishing up his college career playing back home with the Carolina University Bruins. As a shortstop for the Bruins, he hit 12 home runs and batted .359 in his senior season, helping the team finish second in the nation in their division. Early in his career, he played mostly as a second and third baseman.
During the summers in college, Kent played on North Carolina summer teams and also spent a summer playing with the Galion Graders of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.
He will take over for previous head coach Noah Anderson, who spent two years with the Disco Turkeys staff. The rest of the team's coaching staff returns from last summer, including assistants Chase Locklar and AJ Lewis.
"We're excited to see this year's staff get to work with the new team," said team president Greg Sullivan. "They will be very connected to the Winston-Salem area with Coach Kent and AJ Lewis being local guys. Chase Locklar has been either a player or coach for our team since we were founded in 2021. We're all looking forward to a special season."
The Disco Turkeys open the season in late May and will play their home games at Wake Forest University's Couch Ballpark.
