Disco Turkeys featured on ESPN's SportsNation
The Carolina Disco Turkeys were featured today on the ESPN show SportsNation, with their team discussed and apparel displayed in front of sports fans all over the world.
The new Winston-Salem baseball team will play its home games at Truist Stadium this summer on dates the Dash are away. On the ESPN show, the Disco Turkeys were featured as a prominent part of a segment on the Stangel brothers, two longtime former writers on the Late Show with David Letterman.
The Stangel Brothers have been picking out the most intriguing baseball teams around the country to sign fake one-day contracts with. Thus far, they've featured the summer collegiate Portland Pickles, the independent Cleburne Railroaders and Lake Erie Crushers, as well as the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and Double-A Akron Rubberducks.
Today's segment focused on what the brothers are doing with the teams and how the teams engage with their cities and fans, and the big reveal was that the sixth team they will be signing with in the coming weeks is the Disco Turkeys. The brothers revealed the team by holding up their popular tee shirts, which drew cheers from the ESPN hosts.
SportsNation posts new episodes on ESPN+ every weekday at 9:30 a.m. ET and they are available on-demand thereafter. The Disco Turkeys made a prominent appearance on the May 18 episode, and a longer version of the story is also available on ESPN's Youtube channel. SportsNation's target demographics are college students, men in their 20s and teenage boys.
In addition to having tapped into a lot of local enthusiasm in North Carolina and the Triad, the Disco Turkeys have built a strong national following, selling apparel online to all 50 states within two weeks of their launch this spring. The team plays its home opener on Friday, June 4, and is working with the Dash to put single-game tickets to its home games on sale this week.
